For as long as I can remember, creativity and problem-solving have been major driving forces in my life. My parents are very creative people, despite their working-class occupations. Whether it was crafts made to pass the time, experimentation with recipes, or everyday repairs done at home, I always admired their ability to think and problem-solve in ways that were practical, yet creative. Whether I was drawing, observing the behaviors of animals, making racetracks for my toy cars, or creating stories, I was always encouraged to be creative and think in detail about the world around me.

I was born in Fresno, California, to my parents, who immigrated from Mexico in search of a better life. My parents moved from Fresno for a job opportunity, and we have lived in Reno/Sparks since I was about a year old.

I always knew I wanted to do creative work of some kind, and when I was in middle school, I heard about the communication arts program at the Academy of Arts Careers and Technology in Reno, and I decided to apply. I ended up going for all 4 years of high school, and my graphic design classes introduced me to the possibilities that come with design, so I decided to pursue a graphic design degree at UNR.

The creative process for a designer can be summarized as finding visual problems and coming up with effective visual solutions. As a designer, I believe that my role is to improve the everyday interactions that people have with visual media, whether that interaction is noticed or not. I understand the importance of the small details, even if they go unnoticed by many. I'm unsure of what it is exactly, but there's something about the design process that just feels right to me. My goal as a designer is to create visual graphics and systems that will create solutions and effectively communicate ideas. The way in which ideas are communicated is oftentimes more important than the ideas themselves, and those vehicles through which ideas are communicated should be designed and handled with care and precision.
